A second string Women National Football team, Harambee Starlets beat Swaziland by a solitary goal on Monday to book a date with the host nation Zimbabwe in the second semi-final of the ongoing Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) tournament in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
Head Coach Richard Kanyi made a record eight changes to the team that thrashed Mauritius 11-0 on Saturday, with the likes of the sensational Neddy Achieng and Mwanahalima Adam dropping to the bench.
Although Celiwe Nkambule of Swaziland was given her marching orders in the 63rd minute for a high boot challenge, the Starlets had to wait till late in the match when Mercy Achieng scored the only goal that propelled the girls to the summit of group B.
The win ensured Kenya topped the group on 9 points with a record 17 goals,while only conceding two goals. Prior to the narrow win against Swaziland, Starlets saw off Mozambique 5-2 in their opening match of the tournament before the rout on Mauritius.
