Microsoft is bringing more original Xbox games to the Xbox One in Spring 2018

More original Xbox games are coming to the Xbox One in Spring 2018, thanks to the magic of Microsoft’s backward compatibility.

Thirteen classic games for the original Xbox, such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Prince of Persia, and BloodRayne 2, have already popped up on the ‘games on demand’ section of Microsoft’s Xbox marketplace and are available to play today on the Xbox One.

But more are on their way as Bill Stillwell, lead program manager of the Xbox platform, said that Microsoft’s gaming arm has a “curated list of original Xbox classics” which will be released for the Xbox One early 2018.

These games, like the 13 currently available, will run at 1080p on the Xbox One and Xbox One S. The powerful Xbox One X, launching November 1, will run the first-generation Xbox games at 4K, some 16 times more than their original resolution.

However, these games are not remasters, so don’t expect to see any improvements in textures or colours, unlike the enhanced Xbox 360 games that you can play on the Xbox One.

Backward compatibility is one of the aces the Xbox One has up its sleeve over the PlayStation 4, which doesn’t support older PlayStation games unless they’re remastered versions like the Last of Us Remastered.

But the PS4 does have a power advantage over the Xbox One, which has allowed it to hit 1080p native resolutions in more titles, though that’s likely to change with the debut of the Xbox One X.
