The recently-released multiplatform video game, “GTA 5,” has won several awards at VGX. According to a report from Warp Zoned on Dec. 8, the open-world action-adventure video game received the top honors at the event.

“GTA 5” was selected by a committee as the Game of the Year for 2013. It managed to beat out “BioShock Infinite,” “Super Mario 3D World,” “The Last of Us” and “Tomb Raider.” The same video game also took home the Best Soundtrack award at the VGX.

Although “GTA 5” was released for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, it was not voted as the top game for either system. Instead, “The Last of Us” won best Playstation 3 game and the overlooked “Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons” took home the prize of the best Xbox 360 title. “Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag” also beat out the latest installment from the “Grand Theft Auto” series in the Best Action Adventure Game department.

“GTA 5” also received nominations in the Best Voice Actor, Best Song in a Game, Character of the Year and Studio of the Year categories. Rockstar Games, the parent company of Rockstar North, decided to fly the entire development team to the VGX event in order to receive the Game of the Year awards.
