Kast has already released the 100% local lineup for this year’s Tlatsa Lebala and it includes heavyweights such as Franco, Vee Mampeezy, Charma Gal, Slizer and many more. Kast told Arts & Culture that he has already revealed most of the acts and the rest will be upcoming artists.

“Our initial target was 35 artists, and we are still receiving requests from people asking for certain artists to be included in the lineup. Unfortunately, we cannot include any more because of budget constraints,” he said.

Kast who earlier this year walked 2,000km to advocate for the formation of an arts council said this year they are paying every artist for their performance.

He said they had a backlash last year after the event’s success when some artists started demanding money subsequent to initially pledging their support at a free cost.

Gaborone and a lot of sponsors jumped onboard including the youth ministry that paid for the cost of the venue. Kast said although they have asked for support again from the ministry, they are still yet to receive an answer.

He admitted that this year there is not much publicity about the event. He said the hype has died out, but to them it is an opportunity to learn. “This is the biggest all-local lineup event in the country,” he said.

He said they hoped to fill up the stadium every year, not that they are obsessed with the idea he quickly added.

Kast also said they chose the date because Tlatsa Lebala is not a month-end event.

He said the National Stadium is a busy venue so they had to hassle for spots. He further urged people to come and support the event to grow local music in the process.
