Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS might be the two strongest rival ecosystems around. However, even then you still see a host of Google apps lying around on many iOS screens. Likewise, one of the biggest feats of Google’s expertise, Google Assistant is one of those apps that recently was made available on iOS in May starting with the US.
Google is, however, not to rest on its laurels and has declared the search AI will now be accessible to iOS in the UK Germany France and India. On the App Store listing, it is described as supporting German Japanese and Portuguese. However, on the iTunes app, it says the app is now available in the UK and India. The standalone app will work on iOS version 9.1 and above.
Even if that covers a lot of iPhones and iPads, the AI is not without restriction. For example, it can’t be set to activate with the Home Button. That privilege is only reserved for Siri. Although, there is no stopping the widget. The widget can be found in Apple’s notification centre under the widget panel. There is a host of things Google’s Assistant can do, and some it can’t because of Apple’s closed system and baked-in restrictions.
